The revenues of the casinos in Nevada have increased for the fifth month in a row

The regulatory authority for gambling of the state of Nevada has recently published the revenue results of last July.
They show an increase of just under 1% compared to the same period of last year.
This means that this is the fifth month in a row showing an increase in the gaming revenues.
This also suggests that the local casino industry is beginning to recover from the recession that was caused by the international economic crisis in particular.

Some figures

On Thursday, August 29, the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) reported that the casinos in the state Nevada reaped about $932 million in revenues during the month of July 2014.
Casino revenues of the Las Vegas Strip even reached $536 million, which is an increase of 5% compared to the same period of last year.
The establishments in downtown Las Vegas recorded a turnover of $38 million, which is a decrease of 3%.
As the famous Strip is currently undergoing major refurbishments, it attracts more and more players, causing a decline in revenues in other cities in Nevada.
For example, the turnover of the casinos in Reno fell by 2% to only $48 million, which is only a small decrease compared to other cities such as Elko, where revenues dropped by 10% to $20 million, and those of South Lake Tahoe that decreased by 23% to $25 million.
The regulatory authority of the state of Nevada collected a total of $52 million in taxes on winnings of the month July 2014, which represents a decrease of almost 15% compared to the same period the previous year.

A good month for online poker

The revenues of the online poker market grew by 7.6% to $958,000 in July.
They now reached a new record high with tens of thousands of players that are registered for the World Series of Poker (WSOP).
The month of July has now achieved the second best result since the liberalisation of the online poker market and the US state of Nevada.

Optimistic observations

The great results caused observers of the market to be more optimistic that the recession, that was caused by the global economic crisis, seems to gradually disappear.
In fact, some big casino-hotels have been recently, or will shortly, be inaugurated on the Strip in Las Vegas.
Among them are the famous SLS Las Vegas and the Resorts World Las Vegas.
