The Japanese casinos are going to be reserved for foreigners in the beginning
This week, the Japanese government amended the bill to liberalize land-based casinos in the country.
In fact, they decided to limit access to this type of establishment to foreign nationals exclusively.
The proposal was approved by the Alliance for the Promotion of the International Tourism Industry and aims to support the adoption of the law in addressing the concerns of party members of the Komeito coalition.
The announcements of Hiroyuki Hosoda
The original bill was drafted by the legislators belonging to different parties that were in favour of casinos, and was jointly submitted by the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) last December.
It states that the government is obliged to take the necessary legislative measures within one year of the promulgation of the law, and to lift the ban on casinos and to promote the gambling complex.
The former Chief Secretary of the Cabinet, a LDP official named Hiroyuki Hosoda announced that in the beginning the casinos will be open to foreigners only.
The people of Japan are not going to be allowed to play in these establishments.
The politician added that the Alliance plans to include a clause by adopting another law, which would be allowing Japanese nationals to enter casinos in the future, but they gave no further details on the subject.
Part of a national plan for economic growth
Although the LDP is sufficiently represented in the upper house of the Japanese parliament to pass the bill on land-based casinos, it is still associated with the Komeito party coalition to implement this regulation.
Members of the Komeito party expressed worries about possible dangers for Japanese citizens caused by casinos, and the government announced that it will introduce countermeasures to fight against gambling.
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe supports the introduction of casinos in Japan with enthusiasm since his visit of two complexes in Singapore, and it is part of his national plan for economic growth.
He believes that these gambling complexes will be a key element in the strategy of Japan’s economic growth.
Analysts predict that Japan should quickly become the second largest market in the world in this sector, just behind Macau.
