The island of Saipan will get a land based casino

Saipan is the largest island of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands that have been associated with the United States since 1944.
The governor of the island state, Eloy Inos, is currently reinstating a controversial bill for land based casinos with the aim of clarifying ambiguities, and at the same time authorising the Lottery Commission to have an exclusive license.
The Commission will allow a single operator to build a unique gambling establishment in the archipelago.
On Thursday, July 10, the measure was approved by the Senate with 7 votes for and one abstention.

A bill that was already adopted in last March

The first law for land based casinos had already been adopted in March 2014 before the Deputy Judge of the Superior Court David Wiseman pointed out that the text was too flawed and poorly written.
He wrote a note recommending a number of changes that should be in included in the new text. The new bill is called 18-195 HD1 and it corrects ambiguities and gaps of the previous bill.
The bill was unanimously adopted by the Senate on Thursday, July 10.

Two candidates for one license

Representatives of the two companies that are candidates for a land based casino license in Saipan – Marianas Stars Entertainment and Best Sunshine International– were present during the approval of the law, and – quite logically – they were greeted with a lot of enthusiasm.
The new bill will allow them to apply for the valuable license that will in return allow one of them to build and operate the only gambling facility in the whole territory of the Northern Mariana Islands.

Other paradise islands

Saipan is not the only island paradise that is preparing to host a land based casino in their territory.
