The first casino in Tahiti will open in 2021
The president of French Polynesia, Gaston Flosse, has just announced that Group 70 International had been selected to develop a huge casino complex in Tahiti with a budget of $3 billion.
Works are going to start in 6 to 9 months
The project is called Tahiti Mahana Beach Resort and Spa, and it will be built on an area of 52 ha.
It will then be the largest tourist resort in all of French Polynesia.
Group 70 International will also build a gigantic community centre with five high-class international hotels, a marina, a water park, a convention centre, theatres, a shopping mall and a casino on the waterfront.
Works for this project will begin in 6 to 9 months, and they are expected to be completed in 2021.
Presentation of the team
The project aims to boost tourism in Tahiti in order to stimulate the entire local economy.
The project is supported by the government of French Polynesia, and they have approved the plans of Group 70 International.
The company will also establish a new company with the name Group 70 Tahiti, that will be based in French Polynesia, and who will manage the resort complex.
A jury then selected the kama’aina design company to develop the project at the West Coast of Tahiti.
The Group 70 architecture team will be led by FAIA Chairman Francis Oda, interior design by AIA Vice Chair Sheryl Seaman, and civil engineering by Associate David Brotchie.
Additionally, Group 70 will also work on the landscape architecture with Hawaii-based Walters, Kimura, Motoda, Inc.
A tropical resort with very high standards
The unique characteristics of the culture of French Polynesia will be honoured by the design of the resort, that will offer guests a tropical resort of very high quality.
The main building will have a high ceiling with a sail-shaped facade, but also feature sustainable design elements like a sea water cooling system.
