The closure of the Trump Plaza in Atlantic City
The industry of Atlantic City’s land-based casinos has been having great difficulties for several years now.
These are in particular caused by the international economic crisis, competition from online gambling sites and market saturation of casinos in the north east of the United States.
This situation continued in 2014, which was a very bad year for the city in New Jersey.
In this time, the city saw the closures of 4 of the 12 establishments.
It all began in January with the closure of the Atlantic Club, followed by that of the Showboat on August 31, that of the Revel on September 2, and the latest was the Trump Plaza on Tuesday, September 16, 2014.

Despite the prime location
The latest victim of the declining revenues of the casinos in Atlantic City, the Trump Plaza, had been forced to close their doors because of the difficult economic conditions.
However, the establishment had a prime location in the heart of the famous Broadwalk of the city. This did not prevent the players from gradually deserting the establishment, preferring to go to newer casinos.
A deteriorated service and general presentation
The Trump Plaza has been recording lower revenues with their head company, the Trump Entertainment Resorts for several years now.
Consequently, the company tried to sell the casino.
Last year, a transaction was very close to being signed with a company from California, for $20 million, but it was never carried out.
In an attempt to reduce the losses, the casino operator decided to cut back on the services and the overall presentation of the establishment.
However, the building deteriorated, resulting in a further decrease of players visiting the casino.
The numerous customer complaints, closures of bars and restaurants, as well as the deterioration of the external appearance did not help the situation.
The turnover of the Trump Plaza continued to drop down to 31 5% decline in the first half of this year.
That was when the owners decided to close the doors of the casino-hotel.
A worrying situation for the city
Atlantic City started this year with 12 operating casinos, and it will finish probably with only eight remaining establishments.
Other closures may even occur before December 31, as evidenced by recent announcements regarding the Trump Taj Mahal.
The problems of the city of New Jersey do not seem to be over yet.
