The CEJUEGO opposed to proposed Spanish amendment

We mentioned in this recent article that Spain could soon legalize online slot machines.
The Entrepreneurial Game Board does not seem pleased with this decision.
It recently demonstrated its opposition to the project, communicated by the Director General of the Games Ordinance (DGOJ).
In a press release, the Chairman of the Board declared that such legislation would represent a real burden for the entire gambling industry.
Spain currently has more than 190,000 slot machines scattered throughout bars, casinos, and bingo rooms.
These slots make up more than two-thirds of industry revenue, support nearly 80,000 jobs, and generate more than 700 million euros for the state through taxation.
If this kind of game is legalized on the Internet, this could create unfair competition for land based operators, who are subject to much stricter regulations; for example, online casinos could offer much higher prizes.
The first sector affected will probably be the slot machine manufacturing industry.
Next, it’s likely to be the bars’, restaurants’, and casinos’ turn.
Remember that CEJUEGO is an organization made up of advisors from leading Spanish companies and that its recommendation remains advisory only.
