Sheldon Adelson is planning to expand its hotel-casino in Singapore
Even if the industry of the casinos in Singapore may never exceed that of Las Vegas, as we reported in this article, it still celebrates a huge success.
The businessman Sheldon Adelson, the charismatic boss of the Las Vegas Sands group has asked the authorities of the island for the rights to expand the Marina Bay Sands resort by 60%. The hotel is regularly booked out, with an occupancy rate of 98.6% in 2013.
The world’s largest casino operator plans to add 1,500 rooms to its establishment, as well as several conference rooms, banquet halls, and dedicated exhibition space.
The Marina Bay Sands complex opened in 2010 and has been an important catalyst for the growth of tourism in Singapore. It is located in a region that includes a pedestrian area on the seafront, a museum, restaurants, and one of the largest Ferris wheels in the world.
Last year its turnover increased by 11% and reached a staggering 260.3 million dollars.
