Priest embezzled $650,000 to play casino
11/17/11
Last June, a court case mentioned in this post reminded us that some priests are not solely interested in spirituality, and they can also enjoy a little bit of gambling.
Father John Regan was accused of diverting $300,000 to play casino.
Recently, Monsignor Kevin McAulliffe, number 2 of the Diocese of Las Vegas, admitted similar facts.
Member of the finance department of his parish, he falsified account statements by reducing the revenue and placing the outstanding cash on his own bank account.
Using this technique, the priest has diverted nearly $650,000 during the past 8 years, to play casino.
His trial will open soon.
He faces a prison sentence of 60 years and a fine of 750,000 dollars.
