MGM unveils plans for a complex in Osaka
The MGM Resorts International group has unveiled plans for their proposed casino complex.
It will be built if land-based casinos are legalised in Japan.
Bill Hornbuckle, president of the casino operator, submitted the proposal with the name MGM Osaka during the Mizuho Investment Conference in Tokyo.
The company is willing to spend up to $10 billion to develop a facility on the island Yumeshima in Osaka Bay.
A celebration of Japanese culture
The entertainment complex that also features a casino is going to be surrounded by elegant Japanese-style gardens.
As with most other projects of MGM Resorts International, it will focus on the ecology and will fit in perfectly with the region, in particular with other tourist attractions, businesses and the citizens.
If the brick and mortar casinos are legalised in Japan and the Osaka MGM project is selected, Bill Hornbuckle wants to create a consortium of Japanese companies to develop the property.
It should fit perfectly into the Cool Japan strategy, that was set up a few years ago by the government to promote Japanese culture around the world.
The complex is expected to become a major resort that will bring style and sophistication to the world of gambling in Japan and enable the implementation and development of the MICE strategy (Meetings, Incentives, Conferencing, Exhibitions) which has also proven to be very successful in Las Vegas and Macau.
The benefits associated with legalising land-based casinos
In addition to the unveiling of the project MGM Osaka, Bill Hornbuckle took the opportunity during his presentation to remind of the many advantages that could benefit Japan if it legalised casinos in their territory.
The country could receive a lot of money through taxes, develop the national tourism industry, but also regulate the gaming sector to prevent the development under the influence of the local mafia.
Ahead of the competitors
The presentation of the proposal of the MGM Osaka by the famous operator from Las Vegas had quite an impact.
Indeed, they stand out as the first international group to reveal their plans before Las Vegas Sands, Caesars Entertainment, Genting Bhd., SJM Holdings and Melco Crown Entertainment.
By revealing their plans the MGM Resorts International has already scored points for obtaining a license if Japan decides to legalise casinos in their territory.
