Land-based casinos to open in Taiwan from 2019
06/18/13
After Japan, it is now the turn of Taiwan to work on a bill aimed at liberalising land-based casinos on its territory.
The bill, which has been approved by the council of minister, will soon be examined by parliament.
If the law is passed, 6 to 12 months will be necessary to assess the applications submitted by operators interested in opening a casino in Taiwan.
Then, 5 more years will be needed to build the new casinos.
Thus, the first gaming establishments in Taiwan will probably not open before 2019.
The new casinos can only be built on the country’s offshore islands, in touristic complexes, where they will have to occupy less than 5% of the area.
