Jamaica prepares to open their first casinos
In the recent article with the name Jamaica could liberalise their market for online games we indicated that the country was working on a bill to legalise the gaming sector. However, we were also discussing the fact that the first license for a land based casino had been issued already.
It is estimated that the establishment in question will open their doors to the public in the year 2017.
The Jamaican Casino Gaming Commission is currently working hard on developing the next brick and mortar casinos.
Last week, the Minister of Public Service, Horace Dalley, took the opportunity to give details about how the authority prepares the introduction of such an entertainment complex in the country.
An official presentation
Last Tuesday, on the 8th of July, Horace Dalley held a presentation during the annual debate in the House of Representatives.
He explained that the preparations concerned the training of staff, and strengthening the legal framework, that will allow Jamaican Casino Gaming Commission to oversee casino operations on the island properly.
According to the politician, the government is still examining different proposals for three Las-Vegas-style complexes that will soon be built in Jamaica.
The concept of Integrated Resort Developments
According to the Minister of Public Service, the continued growth of the gambling sector could be exponential when casinos in the countries are legalised.
Indeed, after the liberalisation there will also be created what is called Integrated Resort Developments.
It is a huge complex where luxury meets the needs of the VIPs, and it includes hotels, shopping malls, sporting and leisure facilities and of course a few casinos as well.
Until next November 30th
During his presentation, Horace Dalley announced that the expiration date for the receipt of applications for a gaming licence is November 30th.
At the moment, the Jamaican Casino Gaming Commission has already received five projects that were submitted by Amaterra Jamaica Limited, Celebration Jamaica Limited, Harmony Cove, Jamaica Casino Royale and Fiesta Jamaica Limited.
The first land based casino in the country will open its doors in 2017 in Montego Bay, a popular tourist cruise ship destination that is also served by an airport.
According to estimates, the complex is expected to employ 4,000 people full time and it allows the creation of 16,000 indirect jobs.
