After Madrid, Las Vegas is interested in Athens
In 2013, we have followed with interest the EuroVegas series, which was discussed in September, formalized in October, and then canceled in December.
In 2014, we could be living in a similar saga, this time in Athens, Greece.
In fact, the Las Vegas Sands group just announced that it was currently looking at the possibility of creating a leisure complex oriented toward the casino in this European capital.
While some people argue that all their projects are only public announcements intended to raise the price of company shares, others think that Sheldon Adelson, patron of Las Vegas Sands, who is eighty years old, is seeking to carry out a final high-caliber project before his retirement.
Moreover, it is important to keep in mind that this is not the first time that his company has been interested in Greece.
In 2007, the company had already made a proposal to create a casino in Athens’ former international airport in Elliniko.
Whatever happens, if Las Vegas Sands really wants to build a complex in this country, it will have to negotiate directly with the state, which has always stated that no casino would be built in Athens.
That should not be a problem for Sheldon Adelson, who has rather made a habit of negotiating with governments directly when he intends to obtain a license, instead of going through a bidding process.
