The upcoming opening of City of Dreams in Manila
Lawrence Ho, the CEO of Melco Crown Ltd, has just announced that after several delays, the City of Dreams complex in Manila would finally be inaugurated this month.
This is a soft opening for the local market, and the formal opening is scheduled for the Chinese New Year in February 2015.
With a huge budget of $1.3 billion, the establishment in Manila Bay in the Philippines has emerged as the second casino hotel to open its doors in the area known as Entertainment City, which is accommodating four casinos at the moment.
An interview with the local press
During an interview with the Philippine Star newspaper, Lawrence Ho confirmed the opening of City of Dreams in December 2014.
As the market for casinos in the Philippines continues to grow, the CEO of Melco Crown believes that the opening the new facility will be a success which will further enhance the attractiveness and advantage of Manila for national and international tourists.
A huge complex
Consisting of six separate towers, the hotel complex offers no less than 3 different hotels: the Crown Towers Hotel, the Nobu Hotel Manila and the Hyatt Hotel.
It also offers three entertainment venues: one for families, a theatre and a nightclub.
The resort also offers a casino which at time of the inauguration will feature 365 gaming tables, 1,680 slot machines and 1,680 electronic table games.
A competitor for Macau, Singapore and Las Vegas
Located in the Bay of Manila, Entertainment City is a 120 ha area managed by the state agency called Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.
It currently accommodates a total of 4 hotel-casinos of international class.
Its stated goal is to compete with the world capitals of gambling, such as Macau, Singapore and Las Vegas.
