The Chinese island of Hainan will not host a casino
Casinos are currently banned in China, with the exception of those in the region of Macau.
This did not prevent the existence of many illegal establishments that we mentioned in this post.
In recent years, rumours were spreading that casinos could soon be legalised on the island of Hainan.
However, last Thursday, on March 6th, officials said that no gambling institution will be allowed to operate in this region.
About one hour flight away from Macau, the southernmost province of China has become a major tourist destination in recent years.
The capital Sanya is already a home to many hotels, restaurants, bars, and nightclubs.
For some time now, the city was interested in the big casino operators in the world, especially as some rumours spoke of a possible legalisation of gambling in the region.
However, their ambitions have been brushed away with the recent announcement of Luo Baoming, chief of the Communist Party in Hainan.
He said at a conference, that casinos are not going to be allowed on the island.
