Legal online poker threatened by big banks in the US
03/13/14
Last year, several American states legalized online poker within their territories. However, big banks like J.P. Morgan Chase, Wells Fargo, and American Express, continue to prohibit their customers from using credit cards to make deposits to licensed virtual poker rooms.
They have chosen to continue to observe the UIGEA (Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act) of 2006, which prohibits all online gambling at the federal level, without taking into account the recent measures adopted in Delaware, New Jersey, and Nevada.
This questionable position risks penalizing an entire industry that, luckily, can count on bank transfers and alternative payment methods, such as prepaid cards and e-wallets.
