Switzerland considers liberalising online gambling

Switzerland is planning to follow the example set by several European countries such as Suede, Holland and the Denmark and has thus started working on a project aimed at liberalising its online gambling market.
The substantial tax revenues generated by the new law will be used to fund the country’s sport and cultural sectors, as well as to crack down on addiction and to protect minors.
In the next few months, the Federal Council and the 26 Swiss cantons will be consulted to elaborate a bill that will be introduced during the second semester of the year.
Just to remind you – Switzerland is not part of the European Union.
Therefore, it does not have to respect the requirements of European law on the freedom of establishment and movement of goods and companies, nor does it have to submit the project to Brussel for approval.
